Culver CityBus Honors Rosa Parks on Transit Equity Day
Published on February 03, 2025
Celebrated on Rosa Parks’ birthday Culver CityBus proudly observes Transit Equity Day every February 4th—a day dedicated to honoring a civil rights icon and reaffirming our commitment to accessible, inclusive transit for all.
Rosa Parks’ courageous refusal to give up her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama, marked a turning point in the fight for civil rights. Her brave act sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott and continues to inspire social justice movements nationwide. Today, transit agencies across the region commemorate her legacy with special initiatives, including complimentary rides. At Culver CityBus, we are celebrating this important day with our own unique tribute.
On every bus, the first front forward seat will be reserved in Rosa Parks’ honor. Each reserved seat features a commemorative photo and a rose serving as a lasting reminder of her impact. This gesture underscores our belief that transit equity is a fundamental civil right and reinforces our commitment to creating a safe, welcoming environment for every rider.
In keeping with our community-focused values, the roses displayed on our buses during this celebration will be donated to the Culver City Senior Center after their display period. This tradition not only honors Rosa Parks’ legacy but also supports our senior community, who have long appreciated this meaningful gesture.
Transit Equity Day serves as both a tribute to the past and a call to action for the future. As we reflect on Rosa Parks’ historic stand for equality, we also reaffirm our dedication to ensuring that safe, reliable, and inclusive transportation remains a cornerstone of our community. Rosa Parks Day is celebrated annually both on her birthday, Feb. 4, and day of her peaceful dissent, Dec. 1.
We invite everyone to join us as we honor the memory of Rosa Parks and continue the conversation about transit’s role in the community by reserving a seat!
