Culver City Bus

On March 3, 2008, Culver CityBus commemorated its 80th Anniversary. Culver CityBus is the second oldest municipally-owned bus line in the State of California. Following a dispute with Pacific Electric Railway, the City of Culver City sought to establish its own independent transit system, one that would provide quality transit service to the residents of Culver City and its neighbors. On March 3, 1928, the State Railroad Commission granted Culver City’s request and Culver CityBus was established. Since its inception, Culver CityBus has provided efficient and affordable public transit service to the residents of Culver City and the surrounding communities. Today, the name “Culver CityBus” is synonymous with safe, reliable, convenient, and friendly public transit service.

Culver CityBus currently operates seven routes, serving approximately 5.9 million passengers annually with a service area encompassing 25.5 square miles, which includes the Westside communities of Venice, Westchester, Westwood, West Los Angeles, Palms, Marina del Rey, Rancho Park, Mar Vista, Century City, and Culver City. During the past 80 years, Culver CityBus has transported millions of passengers, contributing greatly to the reduction of traffic, air congestion, and pollution in the greater Los Angeles area. In addition, Culver CityBus’ entire fleet is comprised of compressed natural gas (CNG) buses. Culver CityBus was the first transit agency in Southern California and second transit agency in the State of California to operate a 100% alternative-fuel bus fleet. In addition, the State of California has certified Culver CityBus’ Equipment Maintenance and Fleet Services Division as a Green Model Shop.

Culver CityBus continues to be recognized as an industry leader. In 2002, Culver CityBus was recognized as the Nation’s Safest Public Transit System by the American Public Transportation Association. In 2005 and 2006, Culver CityBus’ Equipment Maintenance and Fleet Services Division was ranked 7th in the nation among the 100 Best Fleets in North America and has remained one of North America’s 100 Best Fleets every year since. On February 25th, the City Council of Culver City honored Culver CityBus by issuing a Proclamation commemorating its 80th Anniversary. To further celebrate this historical achievement, Culver CityBus designated March 3rd as
